Ip Man is adapted from the early life story of Yip Man -葉問 the Grandmaster of the Wing Tsun (Wing Chun, Ving Chun) system of martial arts and Sifu of legendary Kung Fu superstar Bruce Lee.
In the title role, Donnie Yen again proves his aptitude for emotionally charged action. He delivers a powerhouse performance in a role he clearly held dear.
The fights are nothing short of incredible and both the smooth, elegant movements and crushing force combine in stunning synergy, courtesy of the excellent action choreography from Sammo Hung and Tony Leung Siu Heung.
The film brings Wing Tsun (Wing Chun) to a wide audience and portrays it in an artful and beautifully constructed way, making the film an awe-inspiring assault on the senses that has to be seen to be believed.
